Where Can I Buy Fels Naptha Laundry Soap 2021
The purpose of putting salt in laundry soap is mainly to help soften the water to prevent mineral build-up on clothes and what-not. Celtic sea salt (just like real salt or epsom salt) is an unprocessed salt and therefore more pure (as opposed to refined white table or sea salt).

The soap comes packaged in paper similar to bar body soap and is most often found in the laundry section of a supermarket or grocery store. It is intended for the pre-treatment of stains by rubbing the dampened product on a soiled area prior to laundering. The manufacturer claims it to be most effective in removing chocolate, baby formula, perspiration, and make-up.
It was often used as a home remedy in the treatment of contact dermatitis caused by exposure to poison ivy, poison oak, and other oil-based organic skin-irritants where they have touched the skin but not yet inflamed the area. When the soap contained its namesake naphtha, washing the skin directly with the soap helped remove urushiol, the allergen associated with poison ivy. As with other strong detergents, the revised formulation retains this capability.
Using too much of any soap will make it difficult to completely rinse the soap away, causing soap buildup both in your clothes as well as your machine. This is where I suspect people are going awry when using this homemade laundry powder.
I want to try making the laundry detergent. I have been using natural laundry detergents for years. I have a problem with my whites looking dingy. I cannot use a clothes line where we live. I do not like to use bleach. Any ideas how to whiten whites? Thank you.
Both soaps can be used to spot-treat laundry stains, as a laundry detergent booster, or as a component of homemade laundry detergent itself. Find my recipe for Homemade Laundry Detergent here. Both bars do the job surprisingly well! Individual results may vary. You may find one bar works better for your needs or preferences. Details below.
I do something similar to this, but my receipe is 1 bar of Ivory, 1/2 cup of Borax and 1/2 cup of washing soda. I use 1 tablespoon per load. Sometimes I multiply this receipe and end up using 6 bars of soap and 3 cups each of borax and washing soda and I dump in a container of downy unstoppables. I use this laundry soap on everything from cloth diapers, to my husbands greesy military uniforms. It works well for my son who is allergic to almost everything and we have been using it for over a year now!
I have a new washer and it has a sensing before it does anything to sense how much clothes are in the washer. My question is.. there isnt a way of adding the detergent and water before the clothes are added. Will it still work if it was put in the compartment where laundry soap goes? Or do i just add it on top of the clothes? Really wanna try the diy but uncertain about that part.
Wondering if any of the products contain Methylisothiazolinone or Methylchloroisothiazolinone or Cl+Me-isothiazolinone (kathon)? I am highly allergy to them! I would very much like to know the answer to the question! I need to make my own laundry soap because everything I buy in the stores contain them and my hands and feet are a mess with the skin all peeled away and they are very sore.
I remember my mom grating fels-naptha soap into her wringer washer when I was a child. It was especially for the load of whites which never got mixed with any colors. She had the whitest whites hanging on her clothes lines, back in the day.
Poison ivyMake sure to wash your clothes and equipment in some shaved or grated fels naptha to remove the oils. Some oils can stay on your clothes and equipment for over 1 year even if washed with normal detergent.
After gathering your ingredients you will start by grating your Fels-Naptha soap bar. Here is what the Fels-naptha soap looked like after grating it. You want to use the smallest grater that you have, so that it melts as quickly and easily as possible! While you are grating your soap start four cups of water boiling.
Fels-Naptha, the first soap to contain naptha, was manufactured by Feby Fels and Company around 1893. Naptha was a liquid hydrocarbon mixture that worked great as laundry soap, but it was eventually removed as it was a cancer risk.
Rub the seam of the label (where the glue is) or the entire sticker with a dry bar then let sit for a few minutes. Then, add a pot of water big enough to cover the label and melt a small chunk of soap into it.
i have done this many times now and we dont buy store bought soap!! i have starting using the scented laundry beads in it. I add them to the boiling soap, only need like a oz. Also i use a small grater its handheld (like a bigger microplane) and it shreds it very fine so i only takes time for the water to boil ti dissolve it. Also after it sits overnite i blend it up with my hand to break up the goo stuff. Just wonder if anyone has tried using an immersion blender to break up even more??
I made this and I absolutely LOVE it!!! Ive been looking for ways to save money especially with expecting a newborn in just a few weeks. I will never buy laundry soap again!! I will be making more this week to have some spare so I dont have to worry about running out when the baby gets here!! Thank you!!
I just made my first batch of this and it seems as if it works well. But I have that old idea still stuck in my head that there has to be bubbles in order for it to be getting clean. When added to my top-loading washer, my water + laundry soap mixture looks almost clear (no bubbles at all). Is this normal?
THANK YOU!!! This recipe is the BEST. We do a LOT of laundry. Each of us has noticed that this liquid laundry soap gets our clothes cleaner than the store bought stuff. We have very hard well water so I add 1/2 cup to each load, plus I use distilled water to make this. Just love this laundry soap!
But we had no laundry soap. I headed down to the local Safeway, and went directly to the laundry aisle. But there were no good deals, and I got sticker shock. For some reason, all laundry soap has gone sky-high, and the usual large Tide we buy for our frontloader washing machine was more than $15! And that was on sale from about $20!
This fits in nicely with a current movement to reduce or eliminate the large, bulky laundry detergent and soap bottles. Since most commercial products are about 90 percent water anyway, DIY soap eliminates much of the cost and carbon footprint. Check out this Associated Press story about bulky soap bottles.
I also start making my own laundry powder recently. I learnt the recipes on the web which are mostly American. It is not easy to get the ingredients here in Hong Kong. I have to buy borax from Chinese Medicine stores (yes, you read it right). Washing soda from home supplies stores and there is no Fels-Naptha Soap here. But I found the FAN laundry soap works very well.
Thank you so much for posting this! I have been using this for about 2 months now and I just love it!! I love the smell of the fels-naptha ? and I have also noticed that old stains are disappearing. I have been using 1/4 cup, but after reading the comments I think I will try cutting it back. Thanks again!
Originally created around 1893 by Fels and Company, about the time my grandmother Leora was born, it was the first soap to include naphtha. Naphtha made the soap effective for cleaning laundry and removing the allergen urushiol (also known as benzene solvent), the oil in poison ivy and poison oak, but it was also a cancer risk, so was removed from the soap.
Fels-Naptha is a bar-type laundry soap sold in many discount and grocery stores, such as Wal-Mart or hardware stores such as Ace Hardware, as well as by online retailers. Stores usually stock this soap in the laundry aisle and not with hand or shower soaps.
I'm taking the plunge and going to make my own laundry soap ! I just can't find the Fels Naptha. I see I can get it on Amazon but I was hoping to find it at a store. I'm in San Diego so there isn't an abundance of country stores nearby. :D Any suggestions?
I just recently found your website/YouTube videos and I love all of the content! It truly is a great resource for me. I have a quick question about this recipe: Do you think that there are enough gentle preservatives in the fels naptha bar or homemade laundry bar to keep bacteria and mold growth from happening in the 5 gallon bucket of detergent? I am stoked to give this a try, but I am also very sensitive to mold and wondered if it would be good to find some sort of natural preservative to add to it. What do you think?
Hello Laura, I made the laundry soap, but I have chunks of soap swimming around. I melted the soap but it seemed to glob and stay chunky in my bucket, any ideas how I can get rid of the chunks, strain it maybe?
An old-fashioned but widely known product used by homemakers for more than a century, Fels-Naptha most often functions as a pre-laundry stain remover. Many organic gardeners, however, use Fels-Naptha to make insecticidal soap spray, which is effective against many common garden and household pests. Because Fels-Naptha contains no fragrances, detergents or other harsh chemicals, the spray made from it poses less risk for people, animals and the environment than some other pest-control products.
To clean their uniforms, some members of the Arizona Diamondback organization wash their uniforms with Tide at home. Most uniforms can be washed in soap and water, but special cleaning products can be useful in a few cases. These are the three simple steps to use Fels-naptha to clean your baseball pants. Footjoy Flex Golf Shoes are designed to make your golf experience as comfortable and durable as possible.
Clothing can be transformed into new looks by simply applying hydrogen peroxide to whiten and brighten it. It not only helps to remove stains, but it can also be used to brighten up the whites of the laundry. If your fabric is stained with a more difficult stain, use hydrogen peroxide and Dawn dish soap before washing it. If your uniform is particularly stubborn, you can use Iron Out to get the best results. You can quickly and easily transform your clothing if you follow these three simple steps. 041b061a72
